Anthony Oyo, from ConsciousnessAwaken.org, shares experiences from visits to these very special Ancient Energy sites across the Salisbury Plains, centre of the UK Crop Circle Phenomenon, in the heart of Wiltshire, UK

Avebury Stone Circles and nearby Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow are regular visiting locations for me, typically on the way back from Glastonbury. All three ancient sites are shrouded in mystery over their origins and purpose, but they are certainly places that an open heart (and mind) can feel a connection to something special.
These three sites are all within 1 mile of each other, situated in the County of Wiltshire in the UK, approximately 2.5 hrs drive West of London and about 1hr drive North of Salisbury, and close by to Stonehenge and the country town of Marlborough. Avebury is part of what appears to be a vast sacred landscape, stretching for many miles in each direction, especially across Salisbury Plain and including a number of special sites, such as Stonehenge, Silbury Hill, West Kennet Long Barrow, the Sanctuary and Windmill Hill, the White Horse at Alton Barnes in Pewsey Vale and Cherhill White Horse, as well as numerous tumuli/burial mounds across the whole area. These are said to date back to the Neolithic (10000 BCE – 2200 BCE) and the Bronze Ages (3300 BCE to 1200 BCE) .
Avebury

Together with Stonehenge, Avebury and its surroundings are a World Heritage Site and are managed by the National trust, on behalf of English Heritage. The Alexander Keiller Museum in the centre of the village, also displays many notable finds from the Avebury monuments.

The Avebury henge survives as a huge circular bank and ditch, encircling an area that includes part of Avebury village. Within the henge is the largest stone circle in Britain, originally of about 100 stones, which in turn encloses two smaller stone circles. Mainstream science believes Avebury was built and much altered during the Neolithic period, roughly between 2850 BC and 2200 BCE.
Avebury attracts people from wide-ranging backgrounds but especially those who believe in pagan ideas. There is undoubtedly a spiritual feeling to Avebury and strange phenomena – such as crop circles, increased magnetism and pulses of energy – have been identified throughout the site. In fact in modern times the Avebury area has become “Crop Circle Central” for most of the UK Crop Circle creations. Many believe that whilst a number are man made, a significant number are created by forces and for reasons that we still do not fully understand. Avebury is said to have been used for around 2300 years, suggesting that whatever the reason, the vast size of the whole complex and the length of time it was in use makes the Avebury temple perhaps the most significant sacred site in all of Britain, if not the entire continent of Europe, second only to Stonehenge, perhaps…
When visiting this site I suggest you take the time to settle into the vibe of the surrounds. I always find it quite different to Glastonbury. The energy feels more subtle to me. The stones give you a focus, if needed, and a multitude of locations that you can connect with and meditate with. I have a favourite stone, towards to the north of the village that I often sit down, lean against, boots and socks off and just “be” with for a few minutes. Try it … see what happens . And when you have done your “Zen”, then there’s the Red Lion pub, The Henge Shop, the National Trust Museum and the Circles Restaurant next door, and a great crystal shop (Elements) to get some spiritual retail therapy in, before you depart, for Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow
Silbury Hill

Silbury Hill is an imposing mysterious mound looming over the landscape, approximately 1 mile from Avebury. According to English Heritage who manage the whole site, Silbury Hill is the largest artificial prehistoric mound in Europe, probably built over a short period between about 2470 and 2350 BC, (find our more). We do not know its purpose, or its meaning for the late Neolithic people who built it, but its enduring presence in the landscape has inspired myths and legends as people have sought to explain its purpose. Note public access is currently prohibited to prevent erosion of the site, but you can get reasonably close using public footpaths.
Mars Connection – Silbury/Avebury
In 1991 , following an intriguing vision, film maker and designer David Percy started exploring the idea of a connection between the geographical siting of key ancient monuments and structures in the Avebury complex, and a photo of the Cydonia region on Mars, which appeared to show very close similarity. The Cydonia region included the infamous “face on Mars”.

His research facilitated production of material for The Terrestrial Connection, a lecture by the Mars Mission presented at the headquarters of the United Nations in 1992. It also enabled the beginning of a collaboration with David Myers , which led to the publication of Two-Thirds: A History of our Galaxy. Not surprisingly this work led to the obvious question .. WHY? What set of circumstances would lead to a formation of structures on Earth, created 4000 years ago, to have an identical match on Mars, which accepted thinking at the time had determined had never been inhabited, and certainly not by Humans? So lots of great questions. I remember seeing this work on a video about this time, (circa 1992) , coincidentally in a village near Avebury, when I was staying my Crop Circle Researcher friend Ed Sherwood, who later founded Millennium Research. At the time the video was amazing and many of us thought it was conclusive evidence that we were not alone. That was approximately 30 years before the US Government’s public omission of having been aware of UFOs (or new name UAP – Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon) for the last 70 years and all the implications of that. In fact the connection continues as David Percy, through his colleague Robert Watts (producer of the Indiana Jones trilogy) was introduced to Phyllis Schlemmer, ( transceiver for The Only Planet of Choice: Essential Briefings from Deep Space, see my review, which I had received from Ed, and started me on my own Spiritual Awakening journey around the same time in 1991), which led to David Percy receiving guidance from the Council of Nine, on how to conduct his research.
This work has of course fuelled much research and TV shows following this topic of unusual anomalies between ancient Earth structures and images brought back of the Moon and Mars. Today (2023) we now have investigative programmes such as Ancient Aliens, Ancient Civilisations, Ancient Apocalypse, and many more that use science to question our established Earth history and start to push back the origin dates of such sites as the Avebury Complex and Stonehenge, and start to bridge the gaps between conventionally accepted Legends, Myths, Science and Historical theories, to establish a credible re-written Human history that is far more ancient, complex and fascinating than we have generally been led to believe, certainly over the last 200 years.

West Kennet Long Barrow

West Kennet Long Barrow is located across the road from Silbury Hill, a 15min walk heading South through fields from the parking area on the A4. (bring sturdy shoes and/or wellies as you will probably have to cross a swollen river, most of the year). The barrow is believed to be primarily a burial ground, dating back to approximately 3650 BCE, and used for 1000 years, based on human remains and artefacts excavated there, according to English Heritage (find out more here)
Like many ancient sites, if you are open and without any expectations, you can experience some sort of connection when visiting these sites. I believe, from my experience, that these places are gateways to higher levels of consciousness and your experience will reflect your vibration at the time and whatever you are ready to receive, in that moment.
I have had a full range of experiences at West Kennet Long Barrow, ranging from nothing obvious at all, (which is typical), to being guided to walk around the whole site 3 times, counter clockwise, bare footed in the winter. The most interesting event was undoubtedly when I followed the guidance of a Shaman friend to meet her there at a specific time and day. As we arrived, what had been a busy site, suddenly emptied out and we were left alone inside the barrow. She initiated some ceremonial actions, which led to the awareness of the presence of some other tall benevolent entities/energies around us, supporting us. I was drawn to conduct some ceremony myself with water. We left after about 20mins and as we did other people started arriving again. As we walked down the pathway back to the car, I saw a small yellowy/orange plasma ball fly across the sky in front of us 4 times. Plasma balls are often associated with the Crop Circle phenomenon, which is common in this location. I had never seen a plasma ball before. The fact that it flew across the sky, just above the field, in front of us, convinces me it was connected to what we had been doing and our vibration at that time. She did not see it.
Even if you don’t consciously have a magical/mysterious experience at these sites, I do believe that on a sub-conscious level, there will be a connection. And if nothing else, you will be outside in the countryside, connecting with nature , with fresh air and looking at some fabulous views!
