Anthony shares his feelings and thoughts from a short Autumn visit to the special magical Town of Glastonbury, Somerset, Southern UK. With rich Autumn colours, fading pumpkins, traces of all things “witchy” and excessive rains transforming the landscape, he shares with us the transformational power of the special energy and a useful resource to find a place to stay and see what’s on, to help you plan your stay here, to reconnect , recharge , chill …… and do a little spiritual retail therapy!
As part of our series of reviews of special places and my own Practical Spirituality Practice to connect with special ancient natural energy, I visited Glastonbury Tor, Wiltshire, Southern UK this week. The town is displaying plenty of signs that we are only a few days past the celebration of Samhain (Halloween), adding a new dimension to the mystical flavour of this special place. Glastonbury has long been known as a place of special energy, with the idea of it being the Heart Chakra of the planet, as well as having a connection to the Arthurian legends. Glastonbury Tor, with the 14th Century St Michaels Tower on top, has also been known as the Isle of Avalon, surrounded by the lake of Arthurian legend. With the recent extensive rains in the area you can start to see that. Thousands of people visit every year to connect with energy, peruse the wide variety of magical spiritual shops, people watch, chill out in the beautiful Chalice Gardens and bathe in the adjacent White Spring and of course climb the TOR to experience sunsets and meditate in and around St Michaels Tower. Often you will find musicians taking full advantage of the Tower’s roof less structure to create and share amazing impromptu acoustic jamming sessions. There is supposed to be a vortex at the top of the hill … a gateway into another dimension.
I have been visiting for a few years and now it is part of my regular process of recharging and reconnection. I spend a few days there every few weeks and it helps me to ground, in a way that only a place of this energetic strength can do. Often once I have spent time “arriving” and decluttered from the journey and normal life stuff, supported my meditation, I start to relax into the space and set my intent to be open to whatever experience is meant to happen. Often with interesting results.
Glastonbury Events and Place to Stay

A very useful resource for events happening in the town and where to stay is “The Oracle”, which you can pick up free in many shops in the town, or online here, The Oracle , Glastonbury Events .There is always something spiritual happening, including Yoga, Meditation classes, Spiritual Retreats and Talks and workshops, Healing Services, Medium ship, Shamanic training and much more…
Some B&B places to stay in Glastonbury that i am familiar with are : Camelot Retreat, and Jasmine Cottage. These are both very popular with spiritual visitors and both provide the opportunity to meet other likeminded seekers, in the town to explore and/or attend events, such as the Goddess Conference, usually held in late July. I have used the Glastonbury Premier Inn on the edge of town many times, as I like the consistency of quality of the offer, which is also close by to the local Travelodge. After visiting Glastonbury, I generally return to my home near Winchester, via Avebury and West Kennet Barrow. Again, two very special places …. We will cover these visits in other posts.
If you feel the calling …. you should definitely visit Glastonbury
